Mandy Simms' songwriting style is not just one genre but incorporates country, pop, blues and folk, reflecting her varied music background. When writing, she prefers songs that can be played acoustically and she is currently embracing opportunities to play her own material at open mics and openings of envelopes.
She writes songs which focus on everyday lives and experiences, and listeners comment that her lyrics are perceptive and relatable.
Once upon a time, Mandy’s parents bought a Bontempi organ and her love of playing music began. Initially a classically trained guitarist and pianist, she wondered in her late teens how rock guitarists sounded so good when only apparently playing two or three strings at a time… finally, in her 30s, Guitar Hero II helped her begin to unlock the secrets!
She then started to branch out into popular music, playing in local rock covers bands. She regularly goes out as part of a duo playing country rock guitar-based covers.
